At Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1181, Americanism is at the heart of who we are and what we do. Americanism is more than a word—it is the spirit of unity, freedom, and civic responsibility that binds us as Americans. It is our duty as veterans, citizens, and community members to preserve and promote these values for future generations.
Americanism is the unfailing love of country, loyalty to its institutions and ideals, and a respect for the founding principles of democracy. It is not tied to any one political party or belief—it is rooted in the shared values of liberty, justice, and equality. To the VFW, Americanism means:
Honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans.
Promoting respect for the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law.
Instilling patriotism in our youth through education and example.
Defending the symbols of our freedom, including the American flag.
Post 1181 actively promotes Americanism through programs and community outreach:
Flag Education & Etiquette – Teaching proper display, care, and respect for the U.S. flag.
Patriotic Ceremonies – Organizing observances on Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Flag Day, and other occasions of national importance.
Community Service – Engaging with local schools, scouts, and civic groups to encourage civic pride and knowledge of American history.
Supporting the National Home – Upholding the VFW’s commitment to the children and families of veterans, reinforcing the values of service and sacrifice.
The freedoms we enjoy were paid for by the sacrifices of those who served before us. By promoting Americanism, the VFW ensures that future generations understand and cherish the principles of freedom and democracy. It is both our privilege and responsibility to keep these traditions alive.
