At Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1181, service to our community is an extension of our service to our country. Community service is at the core of the VFW mission—it is how we give back, strengthen local ties, and ensure our neighbors know that veterans continue to serve long after we’ve hung up the uniform.
For us, community service is about more than volunteer hours. It is about:
Supporting veterans and their families in times of need.
Partnering with local schools, churches, and civic groups to uplift our neighborhoods.
Standing ready in times of crisis, from disaster relief to supporting warming centers.
Providing a place where people can come together to honor and celebrate shared values.
Our Post proudly serves Louisville and the surrounding communities through a variety of initiatives, including:
Food & Blood Drives – Hosting drives to support families and save lives.
Youth Outreach – Engaging with students and scout troops to teach patriotism, leadership, and community pride.
Veterans Support – Assisting veterans with resources, benefits guidance, and fellowship.
Community Events – Organizing car shows, festivals, and fundraisers that bring neighbors together.
Emergency Relief – Opening our doors as a warming center or shelter when the community is in need.
Our community is our family. By serving those around us, we honor the sacrifices of past generations, build a stronger present, and inspire a brighter future. Community service keeps us connected and ensures that the VFW continues to be a cornerstone of unity, service, and hope.
